FOCUS
is a licensed Extended Day Treatment Program specializing
in the treatment of children and adolescents (ages 5-18) who are on the
Autism Spectrum,
have anxiety disorders, experience processing and/or social learning
difficulties, and who are otherwise, as we like to say,
“creatively
wired and socially challenged.”

FOCUS
Center for Autism
offers an exciting new Model of Careä to help families and their children living on the Autism Spectrum.
The “Model of Careä
consists of three basic components:
Milieu
Therapy
Collaboration
Mentorship
Together,
they provide a “wrap-around” model of services that addresses the
many obstacles to growth and learning with which these special children
and their families are confronted.

What is Milieu Therapy?
Milieu or “life space” is the heart and soul of
FOCUS. This program is
planned in such a way that it is constantly supporting, nourishing and
reinforcing the child’s ability to learn life skills, such as problem
solving and coping skills, while at the same time offering a safe place
for these skills to be practiced and integrated into the child’s
repertoire of strategies. Through the use of daily routines, predictable rules and
sensitive adult responses, children are able to grasp the potential for
learning about their world and how they fit into it.
