FOCUS
Center for Autism
works with school systems to help children, ages 5-18, whose social and emotional
needs are interfering with their ability to function in a traditional
classroom setting.
Our
Academic Support Program is woven throughout the day and can offer
several options for children ranging from age five to eighteen.
The first option is our recently extended morning session from
9:00am-12:00pm.
We also offer Academic Support from 12:00pm to 3:00pm for children
attending their district school in the morning. Children who
participate in this program usually flex their academic subjects by
leaving their school early. FOCUS staff works with the sending
district to provide academic support using the school’s curriculum
and related educational material.
In addition, an optional academic support/homework component until 4:00pm
is available for children who attend the 3:00pm to 6:00pm Extended
Day Treatment session.
Another option is a full-time alternative academic support approach. For
children who participate in this program, FOCUS is their full time
school. FOCUS is able to design individual academic programs for
children whose parents and districts choose to use FOCUS as a full
time program. The student would attend FOCUS from 9:00am-3:00pm or
from 12:00pm to 6:00pm.
FOCUS
is designed to meet individual needs, incorporating personal learning
styles and providing individual and small group academic support, while
at the same time teaching critical life study skills that are needed to
help transition children back to their school systems.
